Through a series of flashbacks, we learn of more victims, and of the nearly-successful capture of the Jigsaw Killer, who doesn't actually kill his victims. Synopsis: A young couple, Katie and Micah, move into their new house and Micah records their life on his video camera. After strange events occurring in the night, Katie admits that as a young child, she had once been haunted. She sensed its presences and now worries that it could have followed her to their new home. Micah is sceptical and sets up his camera in the bedroom to record any overnight activity. Release date: July 18, 2014 Director: James DeMonaco Film Info: In a 2014 American dystopian the sequel to the 2013 film The Purge is the second in the series Synopsis: A couple are driving home when their car breaks down just as the Purge commences, for the next 12 hours as all crime is legal including murder. Meanwhile, a police sergeant goes out into the streets to get revenge on the man who killed his son, and a mother and daughter run from their home after assailants destroy it. Sub-Genre: Thriller Camera: The use of close-ups and mid-shots in the trailer especially the climax is used to show the looks of fear on the protagonists faces as they run for their lives to escape the purgers, this allows the audience to connect with the protagonists are they can see their human reactions to the night. Sound: The use of the radio announcement and siren playing other the trailer creates an atmosphere of urgency for the protagonists as you are fearful for their lives as well as a sense of hopelessness as it is the government allow this to happen in the movie. Editing: The teaser trailer starts of with a slow cuts until it builds to the climax with the bikers and there are multiple quick cuts from this point onward to show the degree of violence and tension in the movie as they are fearful for their lives. Colour: through out the movie dark colours are used to signify the fear that the protagonists feel as they, because the movie is at night it means that the antagonists wearing theses dark colours such as black are the representation of evil in the movie. Mood and Styling: The mood of the trailer starts of happy as the couple seem to be just driving along until their car brakes down and the announcement on the radio begins, this then sets the mood for the whole rest of the trailer as is is now dark and a fight for survival, you also get a feeling of the animalistic side to humanity as this is the one night they don't have to fight their urges. Narrative: The narrative in the teaser trailer seems to have a fairly simply plot as this is the one night people are allowed to commit crime however is does leave an intellectual puzzle as to why so many people feel the need to go out and kill just because the can, for are protagonists their humanity is the binary-opposite to the purgers animalistic behaviour. Location: The film is set in the city on Purge night, the use of the tall buildings helps to connote isolation as there are hundreds of people in theses building but barely anyone's on the streets, and those that are are all antagonists as they are purging

Lighting: High key lighting is used at the start of the trailer to create the equilibrium as you believe the protagonists are fine until the car brakes down and the sun sets creating low key lighting which the only source is thanks to the street lamps making a very dark atmosphere for the remainder of the trailer as you are fearful for the protagonists. NVC: The NVC's in the trailer are used to make the audience feel intimidated the masks they were connote the idea that it is not them doing these crimes but in fact a monster within them as you cant see their faces Setting: The setting for the trailer gives the idea of a poor city as the rich are safe and the poor must fend for themselves on the night of the purge showing a binary-opposite between the rich and poor as they are at conflict. Costume: Many masks are used in the trailer, they are very iconic for the horror genre as the create intellectual puzzles for the audience to figure out who the person is behind it. Props: A gun is the main prop seen in the teaser trailer this can be seen as a phallic object because as it is used to kill and the person using it is masculinized by its use.

Release date: June 13, 2014 Director: Mike Flanagan Film Info: a 2013 American supernatural psychological horror film written and directed by Mike Flanagan Synopsis: Tragedy struck the Russell family, leaving the lives of the children changed forever when Tim was convicted of the brutal murder of their parents. In his 20's, Tim is released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life but Kaylie, still haunted by his actions, and is convinced her parents' deaths was caused by something supernatural through an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim's innocence, she tracks down the mirror, to learn similar deaths have befallen its owners. With the mirror back in their hands, they soon lose their hold on reality. Camera: There is a long shot panning to the right revealing an object under a sheet which creates an intellectual puzzle for the audience, the two person close up on who the audience presumes are the protagonists as they look scared, as well as multiple close ups of people with terrified looks on there faces. The close ups of the blood poring down the mirror is used to connote death as blood is an icon for the horror genre. Sound: A monologue with the voice of a young girl is used to set a cold mood as children are used to connote innocence and with the added echo effect it sets an even darker tone. The non-diegetic low tempo sound as it builds to the climax increasing the pace to build the tension. Editing: At the start of the trailer, the pacing is quite slow as it shows the equilibrium but then gets faster and faster which creating tension which makes the viewers intrigued to see what will happen next. The use of quick cuts towards the end of the trailer shows all the action of the film which adds excitement and curiosity to the trailer as Colour: Mostly dark colours are used such as dark red and black this is to connote the vulnerability of the characters and isolation they feel Mood and Styling: The use of a child's voice sets a very dark mood as i feel worried for the victims especial in the scenes the female victim is being chased by the monster. Narrative: The story is told non-linear through the use of a monologue at a fast pace with multiple quick shots Location: A loft only containing the mirror as well as what appears to be a haunted house.

Lighting: The high key lighting used at the start of the trailer shinning down on the mirror frames it as an object of importance for the story. As well as the low key lighting used through out the rest of the trailer connoting the isolation and fear the protagonists feel. NVC: The NVC's are mainly framed in mid-shots and close-ups this is to show the look of fear on there face but also see what is happening in the rest of the scene like the antagonist chasing them. Setting: It is set in a house in the middle of the night in darkness to signify fear as many people have phobia of the dark and relate darkness with evil it connotes a fearful atmosphere. Costume: The costumes of the NVC's are just your normal every day clothes showing that this is set in modern times, and the antagonists don't wear any masks to hid there identities as they are supernatural beings. Props: The main prop being used is the mirror which connotes the protagonists insanity as it is because of it that they believe they are going mad over. The trailer is lacking phallic imagery but as it is a supernatural and not a slasher it is not required.

Him and his friends head to the woods to search for her, where they soon encounter evil forces. Adam Wingard directed this sequel to the 1999 horror film, The Blair Witch Project. Camera The camera gives an establishing shot of the forest in the middle of day light which sets and equilibrium as it appears nothing terrible is about to happen, but later on through the trailer the use of mid shots and close ups of the NVC's shows looks of horror in the faces and night time has come signifying that evil has awoken Sound There is a no-diegetic song called every breath you take playing through out the trailer but they have slowed down the ace and tempo and used a women's voice to add a horror feel to the song making it chilling to hear Editing This teaser trailer relies heavily on headers and text through out the trailer to promote and advertise is as they are trying to recreate the mystery and intellectual puzzle of the first movie in the series "The Blair Witch Project" . Even in the climax towards the end of the trailer there are very little quick cuts as they are keeping to the pace of the non-diegetic music playing in the background. Colour: The colours used at the start of the trailer are bright and vibrant which is useful for setting the equilibrium and signifies that every thing is okay but as the trailer progresses and the colour pallet becomes darker it signifies death and fear. Mood and Styling: At the start of the trailer it does not seat the mood of a horror movie through is use of bright and vibrant colours however as the trailer progresses the mood darkness as night falls and the protagonists are being attacked by the supernatural entity. On the other hand the use of music does set and unsettling mood as it creates and emotional pleasure of fear for what could be in this forest. Narrative: It begins with a beautifully view of a forest establishing calm and peace as a group of teens are exploring the forest having a good time until the sun seats and the supernatural entity's come out. Location: The location is in the middle of a vast forest this connotes isolation as the protagonists are in the middle of no where with only each other to help them survive whatever entity is hunting them.

NVC: The protagonist are very happy and cheerful at the start of the trailer during the day framed in long and wide shots so you can see the whole group of teens but when it becomes darker there are more uses of close-ups and mid-shots showing the fear on their faces as the entity is hunting them. Setting: The setting starts of as being vibrant and full of colour during the day but as it becomes night it becomes a dark and isolated place to be as nightfall and darkness signify death in this trailer. Costume: The antagonist is wearing dirt old rags of clothes showing she has been in this forest for a very long time her wet her could signify that she drown. Props: There aren't allot of props used in this trailer except from the use of torches, this trailer is lacking in objects to connote the horror genre but thanks to its seating, the music used and its use of stock situations like people being chased the audience will be able to tell that it is a horror movie. |
